Welcome To Lynch Vineyards!

Greetings from Napa Valley's Spring Mountain. Here, in our 5 acres of vineyards set on 18 acres of hilly, stony land 800 feet above St. Helena, we focus on just one thing: making small batches of superb red wine. (We also make a distinctive Chardonnay from grapes grown on our ranch near the Chiles Valley.) I call this a "red" mountain, because nearly any red grape does well here - but some do spectacularly.

When I came to this property in 1994, I brought a commitment to excellence and a promise to honor what the mountain told us. We began by planting small plots of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Sangiovese and Merlot (the Merlot we use for blending). The Cab and the Syrah were superb, and the Sangiovese was very good. But that wasn't good enough. The mountain was telling us to make a change. So we harvested the Sangiovese one week in 2002, pulled out the vines the next and planted Syrah. The 2005 vintage will be our first from that plot. We could have kept producing "very good" Sangiovese, but our commitment is not to make very good wine, but the best wine that can be made from our location. So we'll keep listening to what the mountain tells us and doing whatever it takes to make good on our promise to you.

Cheers,
Dan
